Avabai B. Wadia (1913 - 2005)
 The death has occurred in Bombay of Avabai ("Ala") B. Wadia, Phiroz Mehta’s sister and only sibling.
She was born to Dorabji and Pirojbai Mehta in Colombo in 1913. Educated in Colombo and London, she became in 1934 the first Indian woman to be called to the Bar in Britain. She enjoyed a very distinguished career, being the President of the Family Planning Association of India (1963 - 1998) and of the International Planned Parenthood Association (1983 - 1989). In 1946 she married Dr. Bomanji K. Wadia, who died in 1979.
Mrs. Wadia will be remembered by many readers as she paid frequent visits to Phiroz and Silvia at Dilkusha. In 2002 she made the journey from Bombay to attend the centenary celebration in London of Phiroz's birth.
